There are not so many people in the world who truly love their work. But there are even less of those who have a desire and ability to help others by using their professional skills.
Mikhail Vasilyevich Kolybelkin is a maxillofacial surgeon working at the children’s emergency hospital in Novosibirsk, Russia.
In his youth he did not plan to become a doctor, he wanted to devote his life to the railroad, as his father and grandfather, but he did not pass the college entrance examinations and went to the army. After serving in the army Mikhail Vasilyevich got inspired to get a doctor carrier by the stories of his friends telling how interesting it was to study at a medical university. The young man thoroughly prepared for the entrance exams and got enrolled in the dental faculty.
Mikhail Vasilyevich got married early. As a student in the 3rd year of school, he went to work to support his wife and son. Because of his studies, he could work only in the evening, as well as on weekends and holidays. He worked as a nurse in traumatology. This period was decisive for him, because it was then that he realized he wanted to be a surgeon. Since Mikhail Vasilyevich was studying at the dental faculty, he became a maxillofacial surgeon.
In 1987 Mikhail Vasilyevich graduated from the university and was accepted to work in the children’s emergency hospital. After 6 years of hard work, he became head of the department of maxillofacial surgery.
Mikhail Vasilyevich operates children of different ages, including babies who are several weeks old. Together with his team, he helps children with tumors, palipals, and congenital abnormalities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
Since 2003 Mikhail Vasilyevich does not spend his vacation at resorts. Yes, he visits different countries, but with the sole purpose – to help children.
Mikhail Vasilyevich is a volunteer of the charity organization “Operation Smile”. This organization provides free surgical care to the children with congenital facial defects. Thanks to this organization dozens of children from different countries got the opportunity to live this life fully.
In 2018 Mikhail Vasilyevich received a regional award “Doctor of the Year.” The man of course is very pleased with the award. But with great modesty he says that helping children is his duty.
After getting the award and loud applause nothing changed in the life of Mikhail Vasilyevich. He began a planned vacation. The surgeon has no time to rest. This time Mikhail Vasilyevich Iwent to the Altai Republic, where 60 children are already waiting for his help.
